Gypsy Moths: Remove Before You Move
The American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) have teamed up to educate movers and consumers about how to comply with federal regulations and stop the spread of gypsy moths across the country. The gypsy moth is a serious pest, deforesting tens of thousands of acres each year. Gypsy moths are commonly introduced to new areas through human activity like egg masses attached to outdoor household articles, such as barbeque grills, lawn furniture and children’s toys.
APHIS created this fact sheet with the following information:
- A checklist to ensure you’ve inspected all of your outdoor items, including furniture and equipment; and
- to destroy all forms of the gypsy moth; and
- give your professional mover a copy of this info sheet or carry it with you on moving day
