The moving and storage industry includes small, medium and large companies that provide intrastate and interstate professional moving, storage and relocation services. The industry consists of multi-million dollar companies and multi-thousand dollar ones; large corporate organizations and small businesses; “mom-and-pop” operations; van lines and their agency systems; and independent movers. The industry directly employs 186,722 people in the United States, and an additional 295,359 in supplier and induced jobs. The industry and its suppliers generated $85.7 billion in output in 2015.
